In this third article in the series of “Catalytic Leadership”, we will see about “Integrity”

As usual, a small story.

There was a manager who used to eat regularly at one particular restaurant near his office.

There was one waiter he had been noticing regularly. He was impressed with the way he takes the orders and treats the customers. The waiter had a pleasant smile always and was polite in every way possible.

Impressed for quite some time at the waiter, the manager decided to help him. He asked him about what he makes as salary being a waiter per month.

The waiter said, “Sir, I get Rs. 7000 per month and the tips amount ranges from Rs. 500 to Rs. 1000”

The manager said that he can arrange for a job that would get him Rs. 15000 per month and asked the waiter if he would be willing to take up.

The waiter said OK and thanked the manager profusely for considering to help him.

The manager finished eating and the waiter, who was happy, came back with the bill.

However, the manager noticed the bill, which usually is Rs. 120, to be Rs. 60.

When he looked at the waiter, the waiter smiled, winked and said. “Sir, let me know when I should meet you in the office”

The manager replied, “I will tell you after discussing it with my MD, but now, you correct the bill to its actual value and give me the revised bill”

The waiter never got the new job!

One of the ineffable qualities of a catalytic leader is integrity. They never compromise on their integrity under any situation. First, integrity has to come from within; imparting comes later.

In fact, integrity is a trait that is always exhibited even when no one is watching.
